Crowd management and the importance of counting visitors May 12, 2014 | Crowd Management, Crowd Management | 0 comments It is important that measures in the field of crowd management are based on realistic assumptions . Therefore, the municipality of Amsterdam decided to do a test with counting visitors . A pilot CrowdProfessionals was asked to perform. During Kingsday CrowdProfessionals made a headcount of people that visited the North Market (Noordermarkt) in the Jordaan area during the day ( and night ) . Crowd management planning is extra important in a relatively small , cultural and historical area, where many people gather around for free markets , various venues and small events . This count was performed with advanced techniques that detect and process every visitor as unique, while other systems are using estimates and averages . This made it possible to obtain an exact picture of the incoming and leaving visitors and of the visitors present at any time at Kingsday and Kingsnight . Because all support services can watch live what is going on during the day in terms of visitor and relocation preventive measures can be taken quickly. There are some surprising conclusions drawn that the municipality will assist to further optimize crowd management measures regarding Kingday 2015.
